Mastery Ch. 5

That was great what Jacque said about the third law of mastery, asymptote.  It is so true.  Part of Morningside’s mission statement mentions the life long learner.  I also agree with Jacque when she says it is great for students to see active learning and to take on new challenges.  Just because we are teachers does not mean we have all the answers.  It is important when we do not have an answer we can admit that and go find one.  By not making excuses and admitting our mistakes will help the students realize it is ok as long as you give it another try.  One big lesson taught in every education class is to model for the students.  If at first you don’t succeed, try and try again.  So to answer your question Jacque, I really like the section on mindset.  I also believe that mastery is a mindset, and it will be challenging to encourage students not to make excuses for why they cannot do something.  Giving students a safe environment to take risks and become engaged can help influence a positive mindset.
