Ch 4, Autonomy

I relate this chapter to education with the 4 t’s, task, time, technique, and team.  Barb and Jacque mention that it may be hard to control how teams form, but there are ways to prevent that from happening.  Let’s take for example; the way Susie uses the random organizer to put us in groups.  I think that is a great way to form teams.  Students can get to know each other and it will also give teachers the opportunity to see how well students work together.  I will also let us see who takes control of the group (team leader), the one that gets the team off task, the one who does not work, etc.  Another example to relate from this book for team is this sentence, “…making sure they have control over their task, their time, their technique and their team is the most effective pathway to that destination.”  Having teams work in class will allow us see if students are accountable of their work or project they have to accomplish, but as teachers we need to make sure that each team is on the right track, that each student is working and helping the team out.  .
