Last chapter Barb mentioned that as educators we have to learn what motivates our students. I agree with this and think it ties in with the three laws of mastery. For the students to be in the right mindset we have to know how to motivate the student. Many students might find it helpful to know that they don’t have to be good at something but they have to keep trying as the book puts it on p120. The hard part of mastery with students will be that mastery is pain. Students don’t like to be uncomfortable so it will be important for the teacher to remind them that getting the wrong answer is okay as long as they try and want to do better. My favorite part was the idea that mastery is an asymptote. This is a good way to remind the students that as a teacher we still are not masters of the material and still have to work at being better. I have found that in the classroom students like to see the teacher as a human and know that they have to work at things too. What part do you think you will use the most?
